The Arapahoe/Douglas Career and Technical School is intended to
be the career/technical education wing of the home high school. Programs
offered on a cooperative basis are designed to be an integral
part of the program of studies conducted by each school. Career/technical
programs are supplemental to, and an enrichment of, existing educational
programs. The curriculum offerings are designed for students who
may be planning to enter the labor market upon graduation from
high school as well as students who plan to continue their educational
endeavors by enrolling in related fields of study at community
colleges and universities.
CAREER AND TECHNICAL EDUCATION
Career and technical education programs are intended
to prepare students for initial employment in an occupational area
of their choice. Individual choices are designed to prepare students
with marketable skills, knowledge, and attitudes necessary for
securing initial employment. They also offer background for further
progress in the field.
Career and technical education is not terminal training.
Students completing a program may continue their education at
the technical institute or college level, or enter the fields of
business,
industry, service trades, health, or marketing occupations. In
all cases, students will have to continue their education and training
either formally or on the job in order to advance in their chosen
field.
COLORADO CONTENT STANDARDS
ACTS program curriculum is continuously evaluated
and linked to the Colorado Content Standards in the areas of reading
and writing, science and mathematics. Career and Technical Education
students participate in a variety of classroom and lab activities
designed to increase their proficiency in the content standards.
ACTS MISSION STATEMENT
Our mission is for students to develop occupational
competencies and employability and leadership skills within career
pathways, which foster life-long learning and success in a changing
workplace.
